World’s largest stained-glass Samurai armor displayed at ESPACIO Nagoya Castle

NAGOYA: A special exhibition featuring the world’s largest stained-glass samurai armor, inspired by legendary Japanese warlord HIDEYOSHI Toyotomi, concluded on Sunday at ESPACIO Nagoya Castle, a luxury hotel in central Japan.
The exhibition, held from August 30 to October 25, showcased an elaborate armor sculpture created by Japanese stained-glass artist Yoji Uchiyama.
Standing 213 centimeters tall and weighing approximately 80 kilograms, the artwork is made from around 20,000 pieces of stained glass in 33 colors, assembled into 72 individual components.
In April 2025, the sculpture was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest armor made from stained glass.
The armor pays tribute to Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of Japan’s most influential historical figures, who played a central role in unifying the country during the late 16th century.
The artwork belongs to Toyokuni Shrine in Nagoya, which is associated with Hideyoshi’s birthplace.
Displayed in the hotel’s first-floor lobby, the sculpture formed part of a series of special art exhibitions celebrating ESPACIO Nagoya Castle’s first anniversary.
The exhibition offered visitors an opportunity to experience a contemporary interpretation of traditional Japanese samurai armor through the intricate craftsmanship and vibrant colors of stained glass.
