DUBAI: More than 257,000 people attended this year’s in-person Tokyo Game Show (TGS 2026) from Sep. 17 to 21, according to Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA), making the major gaming event a huge success.

The 30th anniversary edition of TGS 2026 was held under the theme of “The Longest Ever, Five Days Full of Play.” It featured 1,138 companies and organizations from 53 countries and regions, surpassing last year’s record.

At the Makuhari Messe venue, new titles for a wide variety of platforms, from home game consoles to smart devices, PCs, and VR, were unveiled.

In addition, numerous related products and services reflecting the further expansion of the game industry, cutting-edge solutions, and limited-edition merchandise were exhibited.

The Event Stage in Hall 1 also presented a wide range of engaging content, including the “Keynote Speech” and the “Japan Game Awards 2026 Future Division Announcement and Award Ceremony,” as well as the “30th Anniversary Title Talk Stage,” to which producers of game titles also celebrating their 30th anniversary were invited to commemorate TGS’s 30th anniversary.

Business meetings were also actively conducted, with a record-high 3,673 meetings using the “TGS Business Matching System.” Online, 25 official programs were streamed.

In addition to streaming via the official TGS accounts on YouTube, X, Twitch, and other services, and platforms such as Niconico, the programs were streamed in cooperation with DouYu and Bilibili for China and IGN for Europe and North America.

One of the highlights of TGS 2026 is the major increase in the participation of international exhibitors from different countries at the event, such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Türkiye, and more.

Emirati company Red Dunes Games participated at TGS for the third time, where they showcased over nine titles along with exciting experiences at the event.

The company showcased the first exclusive gameplay demo for the upcoming game ‘Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past,’ which is being developed by Dutch studio Blast Zero, the creative team behind Jitsu Squad.

Moreover, the event hall’s main stage hosted a variety of programs, including keynote speeches, e-sports, fashion, and music.

The fifth and last day of the event was cancelled because of the typhoon.

TGS 2027 will take place at Makuhari Messe from Sept. 16 to 20.
